Chez Athena, Platanias

Chez Athena is a 4-star luxury stay in Platanias, Greece, designed for travelers who want a calm base while still being close to the action. The hotel sits in the Platanias area, where you can reach Platanias Beach on foot and return quickly when you want a quieter moment. Guests typically appreciate the balance between laid-back beach time and easy access to the village’s restaurants and evening atmosphere. Many reviews highlight the hotel’s serene feel, especially after a day out in Chania’s historic quarter, and couples often mention that the setting feels comfortable rather than overly formal. If you’re planning sightseeing, Old Venetian Harbor is about 10 km away for waterfront walks and evening dining, while Samaria Gorge is roughly 45 km for those building an active itinerary.

On-site, the outdoor pool is a frequent talking point, with guests using it as a simple reset between excursions. There’s also a fitness center for keeping routines intact, which comes up in feedback from visitors who don’t want to fully pause training. An on-site restaurant supports the “stay local” approach, letting you eat without needing to coordinate transport after a long day.

Best for couples seeking a romantic, low-key base in Platanias, Chez Athena suits travelers who prefer short trips to major landmarks rather than being stuck in the middle of the busiest streets. It can also work for solo explorers who want a peaceful place to recharge between beach walks and day trips.
